The ultimate CVT belt developed by EVP for the Polaris Pro R

The Evolution Powersports (EVP) Alpha Belt represents the next generation of high-performance CVT belts developed for the 2022+ Polaris RZR Pro R.

EVP designed the Alpha range with a clear goal: to transfer more power to the wheels while reducing slippage and operating temperatures, with durability suited for both stock Pro Rs and extreme builds.

For its development, EVP tested several compositions on the dyno and in competition, notably on Polaris Pro Rs with over 600 hp, as well as on their race vehicles with up to 800 engine hp.

➡️ A belt particularly well-suited for built Pro Rs, competition, and intensive use, though it can also be used on a stock vehicle.

💪 Up to 2× the service life of the OEM belt during EVP testing

EVP used the original Polaris belt as a baseline during the development of the Alpha.

Tests were performed on their 600+ hp Pro R on a Mainline dyno, with repeated pulls until belt failure.

The Alpha belt withstood twice as many dyno pulls as the Polaris OEM belt.

⚠️ These are results obtained under EVP test conditions and not a guarantee of a systematically doubled service life in all applications.

🚀 Up to 15 additional WHP measured by EVP

The Alpha belt consistently achieved the best power results among the belts tested.

During the tests:

The Alpha belt transmitted an average of 15 additional WHP compared to the other belts tested.

Obviously, this is not power created by the belt; this difference comes from a reduction in losses due to slippage and heat in the CVT transmission.

More engine power is thus effectively transmitted to the wheels.

➡️ On a heavily built Pro R, belt efficiency therefore becomes a genuine performance component.

🌡️ Significantly reduced operating temperature

Temperature management was one of the primary focuses in the development of the Alpha range.

The belt construction is specifically engineered to dissipate heat and reduce the temperature of both the belt and the CVT pulleys.

During one of the comparative tests published by EVP, the average temperatures measured were:

EVP Alpha: 230.9 °F ≈ 110.5 °C

versus

Competing belt: 288.8 °F ≈ 142.7 °C

A difference of approximately 32 °C less on average in this specific test.

🧪 New high-performance rubber compound

EVP developed and tested six different compositions before selecting the blend used for the final version of the Alpha.

The belt uses a new high-fiber content synthetic rubber compound, developed to increase power transmission capacity while maintaining excellent resistance to heat and mechanical stress.

This design allows for:

✔ Better power transmission

✔ Excellent high-temperature resistance

✔ Better resistance to heavy loads

✔ Reduced slippage

✔ Improved longevity under intensive use

🧵 High-strength Aramid cord

The internal structure uses an ultra-strong, high-twist Aramid cord.

This technology allows the belt to withstand the high tensile loads generated by the engine while improving its ability to absorb shock loads.

Particularly beneficial for:

✔ Standing starts

✔ Sudden regain of traction

✔ Jump landings

✔ Full-throttle acceleration

✔ Competition use

✔ Very high-power engine configurations

⚙️ Precision-machined sidewalls

Another major difference compared to a conventional belt concerns the finish of the sidewalls.

EVP uses sidewall angles precision-machined to very strict tolerances, rather than a simple cut finish.

The goal is to achieve more efficient contact between the belt and the CVT pulleys.

Result:

✔ More contact surface

✔ Less slippage

✔ Better power transmission

✔ Reduced operating temperature

✔ Crisper acceleration

🛡️ Reinforced construction against deformation

The top and bottom cogs of the belt have also been specifically reinforced.

This architecture is designed to better resist:

✔ Deformation

✔ Cog crushing

✔ Delamination

✔ High temperatures

✔ Sudden load variations

🏁 Tested up to 800 hp

The Alpha belt was not just developed on near-stock vehicles.

EVP tested it on their competition X3 and RZR vehicles developing up to 800 engine hp.

Among the tests performed, EVP also mentions:

  • A 600+ hp Pro R on the dyno
  • An 800 hp Drag Pro R with high-RPM starts and high boost pressure
  • A Maverick X3 entered in the Vegas to Reno endurance race, which finished the event with the same Alpha belt

➡️ A true belt developed around high-performance and competition vehicles.

⚠️ Belt break-in

EVP mandates a specific break-in procedure after installing their belts.

Following the break-in is important so that the surfaces of the new belt properly adapt to the CVT pulleys and to achieve the best possible performance and longevity.
