The Alpha Evolution Powersports (EVP) belt was developed to push the limits of strength, temperature, and power transmission for the Can-Am Maverick X3 CVT system.
Succeeding the renowned Bad Ass line, the Alpha utilizes a new compound, an aramid-reinforced structure, and most importantly, precision-machined sidewalls to optimize contact with the variator pulleys.
EVP tested it on stock vehicles as well as on their competition machines developing up to 800 engine HP.
➡️ The premium EVP belt for heavily loaded, tuned, or race-spec Maverick X3s.
During its development, EVP compared various compounds as well as several OEM and aftermarket belts.
According to their tests, the Alpha belt transmitted on average:
compared to the other belts tested.
The belt does not, of course, create additional engine power. This difference comes from a reduction in losses related to slippage and heat within the CVT, allowing power to be transmitted more efficiently to the wheels.
✔ Less slippage
✔ Lower CVT losses
✔ Better grip on pulleys
✔ Sharper acceleration
✔ More efficient power transmission
⚠️ The stated gains correspond to EVP test conditions and may vary depending on power, variator tuning, and vehicle configuration.
Heat is one of the main enemies of a CVT belt.
EVP therefore developed the Alpha to better dissipate heat and reduce the operating temperature of the belt and pulleys.
During the famous BITD Vegas to Reno endurance race, an EVP Maverick X3 completed the entire event with the same Alpha belt, without failure. EVP recorded some of the lowest belt temperatures their teams have ever observed during a desert race.
➡️ A significant advantage for long and intensive use where CVT temperature becomes critical.
One of the main features of the Alpha lies in the manufacturing of its contact surfaces.
EVP uses sidewall angles machined with precision to strict tolerances, unlike more conventional cutting processes.
This finish increases the contact surface area between the belt and the pulleys.
✔ Better grip
✔ Reduced slippage
✔ Reduced belt temperature
✔ Improved power transmission
✔ More efficient launches
To develop the Alpha, EVP tested six different compounds before selecting the final formulation.
The belt uses a new synthetic rubber blend with high fiber content, designed to withstand the stresses of high-horsepower engines while improving durability.
✔ High temperature resistance
✔ Excellent power transmission capacity
✔ Resistance to heavy loads
✔ Better longevity under intensive use
The internal structure uses a high-strength, high-twist Aramid cord.
This construction improves the belt's ability to absorb shocks and heavy loads generated by the drivetrain.
Particularly beneficial during:
✔ Full-throttle acceleration
✔ Sudden re-engagements
✔ Jump landings
✔ Crawling
✔ Competitive launches
✔ Use with heavily tuned engines
The upper and lower cogs also benefit from a specifically reinforced design.
This architecture was developed to better resist:
✔ Deformation
✔ Cog crushing
✔ Delamination
✔ High temperatures
✔ Repeated stress
EVP tested the Alpha technology under particularly severe conditions.
The brand conducted numerous trials on their competition Maverick X3s and Polaris RZRs up to 800 engine HP, as well as many dyno runs on vehicles exceeding 600 HP.
The Alpha belt was also successfully used on a Can-Am Maverick X3 during the BITD Vegas to Reno endurance race, without changing the belt during the event.
➡️ However, it is also suitable for stock vehicles.
During their Mainline dyno tests, the Alpha technology lasted up to twice as long as the OEM belts and competitor belts used as references.
⚠️ This is a result obtained under EVP test conditions. This does not mean that the service life will be systematically doubled on every vehicle.
The Alpha belt has more grip but it will not correct improper variator tuning.
On drag configurations with high-RPM launches and high boost pressure, the primary and secondary clutch settings may need to be adjusted. The Alpha generally requires less belt clamping pressure than other models.
➡️ On a heavily tuned X3, the CVT tuning must therefore be adapted to the belt and the vehicle's power.
Compatible with:
✔ Can-Am Maverick X3 2017+
✔ Can-Am Maverick X3 MAX 2017+
✔ Can-Am Maverick X3 900
